Starlight Coda News
I’ve decided to make Starlight Coda available for free on Kindle from April 2nd to April 4th. It’s also enrolled in the Kindle Unlimited program, so you can also access it that way. If you read the book and enjoy it, I’d appreciate if you would take the time to add a rating.
General Site News
I’ve continued to invest my research time in the beings of folklore project, with the intention of gaining a global scope. There is still several months of work to be done as far as research is concerned, then I can get down to sorting everything out. As for the final ends of the project, I’m considering writing a series on the subject, which would take the form of 100-250 page books on a given being type. I’ll still make sure to post summary articles about their characteristics once finished, and the research will continue to be put up on the blog.
More immediately, my next original article will be about the overlooked mythological archetype of the Girl in the Lightning. This will be the start of several such archetype examinations.
I also have several reviews I’ve been working on. I recently watched the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films for the first time. It wasn’t exactly a blind watch, since I’ve seen a number of clips online, but it was interesting to finally sit through them. The reviews will cover my thoughts on both the movies and the books. This also offers a good chance to talk about what Tolkein got right and what he got wrong about elves, orks, dwarves, trolls, etc., and about where the modern fantasy genre gets its inspiration (a broader topic than Tolkein alone). There are potentially a few more reviews in the works, but they are time permitting.
That’s what is coming up for April/May.
Regards, Joshua Kingston.
